Kate and Matt – Wedding Photography at St Nicholas Church, Whitchurch and Field Farm

A sunny beautiful day with Kate and Matt. They made the perfect venue choices for their Big Day. Kate’s parents local church in Whitchurch and a fabulous marquee reception at their home in Farrington Gurney.

Kate contacted me to photograph her wedding after I had photographed two other friends weddings in the last few years. (Lovely to see Leah and Rob and Louise and Ashley!) and having seen the lovely spot they had picked out on their farm for the reception I could visualise their relaxed country wedding perfectly. The sun dances that everyone had been performing in the lead up to the day worked well and the weather was glorious with fabulous sunshine and gentle breeze.

Kate got ready at her parents home about twenty steps from the Church, where she had a relaxed morning getting ready with her girls.  Hair was done by Lucy at Hair by Knight situated about another 10 paces further than the church and Kate had her good friend Leah create her natural make up look at home. Bridesmaids wore elegant navy gowns from Phase 8 that were teamed with heart pendants, cream satin shoes and loosely handtied pale pink bouquets.

Matt and his groomsmen were greeting guests as I arrived at the church and other than a panic about the flowers being delivered to the wrong address (all sorted in plenty of time before the ceremony) they all seemed rather relaxed. I captured some shots of the boys together and them putting on their buttonholes when they arrived as guests started to file into the church. I have photographed St Nicholas on one other occasion and remember it being quite a squeeze…At Kate and Matt’s celebrations it was standing room only, with additional seats brought in and the bride and groom perching on a bench in the middle of the aisle during the sermon! Clearly a very popular couple! A ceremony that no one will forget in a hurry, the vicar having been given the notes by the usual reverend who was on holiday muddled the newlyweds up with another couple and told their guests how they had met as being croupiers at a casino…Kate and Matt are actually a midwifery assistant and farmer and have known each other since school. Far too polite to interrupt him, they kept quiet until the vicar asked them a question about their invented past which did make everyone in the congregation laugh and he was just a touch embarrassed and apologetic.

Group photos in the church grounds were preceeded by a farmer tradition the pitch fork archway, with guests in white coats and decorated pitchforks waiting for them at the church door.

Guests then headed to Field farm where they were greet by Pimms and canapés to enjoy in the sunshine. Before the happy couple arrived I took the opportunity to capture the perfectly chosen details in the marquee. handmade bunting made form burlap sacks, tiny flags with table numbers on, cakes for favours, wooden wishing well and a different floral display on every table looked great and so much time and effort had gone into making the lovely combination both rustic and elegant. The outside space was adorned with more bunting a floral archway, plenty of hay bales grouped together and a HUGE hay bale sofa strewn with rugs and blankets that made a great backdrop for photos and plaything for the kids. The kids had a great time on the bouncy castle and soft play areas and the really long grass became a great running and hiding space for the children to play.

Mr and Mrs Curtis arrived on the back of a tractor driven by Matt’s dad much to the guests delight and made for a lovely photo opportunity for the gathered crowd. he newlyweds then enjoyed time mingling in the sunshine before we completed the pictures. Larger group photos were captured in the long grass and under the shade of a large tree before I headed with the bride and groom into the grass with the beautiful vista of the hills behind, the most beautiful backdrop and one that was used throughout the afternoon.

A lovely day with Mr and Mrs Curtis. Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of your day. Here are a small selection form their Big Day on the 27th June. Get in touch with Kate and Matt and visit the client area of this website to see their complete online gallery.
